Oscar Peterson Dies

According to the Canadian Broadcasting Company, pianist Oscar Peterson, one of the great virtuosos on his instrument, has died of kidney failure at the age of 82. Peterson's technique inspired awe, and his music is highly influential (read my recent interview with composer and pianist Lalo Schifrin). In 2007, Telarc released a 1998 concert recording by his Very Tall Band, and TCB (the Montreux jazz label) released Oscar Peterson & Friends - Lausanne 1953 (pictured), a killer jam with Barney Kessel, Ray Brown, Lester Young, J.C. Heard, Charlie Shavers, Willie Smith and Gene Krupa.
