Hudson River Cafe Jazz Fest

Thursday September 4, 2008
For those New York readers out there, check out the Hudson River Cafe Jazz Festival on September 16th. It starts at 7:30 at the Hudson River Cafe, at 697 West 133rd Street, and will feature percussionist Fellé Vega, the Michelle Marie Trio, and the Antonio Sanchez Trio.

Guitarist Michelle Marie (pictured) is producing the event as well as performing, and she plans on expanding the festival in the coming years while maintaining focus on local acts, primarily those that showcase New York's diverse musical traditions. Fellé Vega, a Dominican who is now based in New York, brings African, Spanish, and Taino music to life on instruments he creates out of found objects. Mexican-born Antonio Sanchez is one of the leading drummers today. He will be performing with his trio, including bassist Scott Colley and saxophonist Steve Wilson. Read my recent interview with Antonio.
