Anita O'Day Documentary
Anita O'Day's satiny voice and whimsical rhythmic phrasing made her one of the best jazz singers of her time, alongside Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Billie Holiday. The 2007 documentary Anita O'Day: The Life of a Jazz Singer, was completed just before her death in 2006 at age 87. The film features candid interviews and clips of performances with Gene Krupa, Louis Armstrong, Roy Eldridge, and others, including the classic 1958 Newport Jazz Festival concert that earned her a feature in Time Magazine.
For the next few months, the film, which was directed by Robbie Cavolina and Ian McCrudden, will be screened in various cities throughout the country for limited engagements. Visit the documentary's website for local show times.
