Dave McKenna Interview on NPR
Saturday November 29, 2008
Dave McKenna, (May 30, 1930 - October 18, 2008) was known for his brilliant solo piano performances, fluidly combining stride piano, bebop, and everything in between. He played with Woody Herman, Stan Getz, and Gene Krupa, but spent most of his career performing solo medleys.
This past Thursday, NPR's Fresh Air rebroadcasted a 1988 interview with McKenna, whose music has been played regularly between segments on the radio show for decades. The interview also includes the late pianist beautifully performing a handful of standards.
