Circulating on the web are bits of news that trumpet legend Freddie Hubbard suffered heart failure last week and entered the intensive care unit in Sherman Oaks, California, where he is in stable but critical condition. Jazz writer Howard Mandel offers some details on his blog.
Hubbard, whose explosive sound and hard-swinging lines have made him one of the most influential trumpeters in jazz since he rose to fame in the early 1960s has suffered various health problems in recent decades. In 1992 he suffered a lip injury that required surgery, and severely affected his ability.
Jazz musicians and fans have him in their thoughts, and we hope he has a speedy recovery.
