Read my review of the NYC Winter Jazzfest, which took place on Saturday, January 10th, 2009. I write my impressions of the shows I saw at the fifth annual festival celebrating modern and experimental jazz.
There were 21 bands performing, and I managed to catch Jason Moran, Dafnis Prieto, Lafayette Gilchrist, Don Byron, and Jeff 'Tain' Watts. I wish I could have seen some other artists as well, including Theo Bleckman, Robert Glasper, Aaron Parks, and Taylor Ho Bynum, but four hours of continual music proved to be all my ears could handle.

Thanks for the very well written review. It was an amazing evening of music. My impressions of Don Byron and Dafnis Prieto were generally more favorable than yours, but I appreciate your observations and insight.
