Vision Festival 2009

Sunday April 19, 2009
While the fate of New York's JVC Jazz Festival is still uncertain, one thing you can count on is the avant-garde Vision Festival. From June 9th through 15th, the Vision Festival will feature performances by some of the greatest free jazz and experimental musicians around, including bassist William Parker, drummer Nasheet Waits, Matthew Shipp, Lisa Sokolov, Craig Taborn, and dozens of others. Check the full schedule here.

If George Wein can't pull together a mainstream festival in New York this year, casual jazz listeners will either have to stay at home or make the effort to appreciate the more esoteric sounds of experimental improvisation.
