Ten Classic Jazz Singers

Sunday May 17, 2009
Take a look at my list of 10 Classic Jazz Singers. Of course there are dozens of great jazz singers who didn't make this list, but that doesn't mean they didn't deserve to. If you have any favorites you think should be recognized here, write in with names and any other information you'd like to post.

(1) Dave Lamoureux says:

Jacob,

Great list especially the all too often overlooked Jonny Hartman. An album by Johnny is what I turn to whenever I need to change the vibe in my house. There are several other singers that I would have chosen over Lena Horn. Not to disparage her, but Mel Torme, Joe Williams, Rosemary Clooney, the too soon to leave us Susannah McCorkle, Jon Hendricks, and even Tony Bennett would have got the nod from me. I may even raise some wrath by suggesting Sarah Vaughan, over rated in my opinion, be left off. Of course, it’s all subjective, but certainly thought provoking.

Regards, Dave
