Linda Oh released her debut solo project Entry (self-released) on October 6th, 2009 to rave reviews. This Thursday, October 8th, she celebrates by performing at the Jazz Gallery in Manhattan at 9:00 and 10:30 pm. I'll catch her second set after hearing bassist Joe Martin at the Jazz Standard (see Double Bass #1).
Ambrose Akinmusire and Obed Calvaire join Oh on Entry, which features mostly original compositions. The trumpet/drums/bass trio makes for a surprisingly spicy sound, and Oh's compositions combine groove with searching, reflective moods. At the Gallery, Tommy Crane will be performing instead of Calvaire.
