
Check out my new installment of my "Jazz by Decade" series. The 1930s were a fertile time for jazz. With a backdrop composed of the Great Depression, the repeal of the prohibition of alcohol, and rumblings in Europe that led to World War II, swing had taken over. Also, the emphasis on raw, bluesy attitude, as well as on virtuosic soloists, foretold the emergence of bebop.
