Undead Jazz Festival cofounder Adam Schatz wants to coin the term "Zombie Jazz" for the high energy and stylistically disparate tapestry of jazz groups on the New York scene. Instead of arguing with those who proclaim that jazz is dead, Schatz says "we'd prefer to accept that jazz died, and now is back from the dead with a stronger drive than ever before."
Read my interview with Schatz about the 2010 Undead Jazz Festival, which takes place on June 12th and 13th in Manhattan's Greenwich Village, and will feature over 30 bands playing 45 minute sets across three venues within one square block.
Also, get a taste of the festival by listening to the "mixtape," which streams popular songs from many of the bands that will be performing.
