
On October 21st, 1917, John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie was born. He died in 1993. This year he would have turned 93 years old.
Dizzy, who is known for having developed bebop alongside Charlie Parker in the late 1940s, also played a big part in introducing Afro-Cuban music to American audiences. His music, along with his persona, is full of wit, joy, and excitement.
