Jacob Teichroew is a jazz musician, educator, and music journalist whose love for music motivates him to share it in every possible way.
Experience:
Jacob Teichroew is a musician, writer, and educator living in New York City. His first experience writing about music was for a dissertation in college. He co-authored a book containing transcriptions and analyses of solos by legendary jazz saxophonists from Coleman Hawkins to Joe Lovano. This work attracted the editors of Jazz.com, for whom Teichroew has written biographies of jazz musicians including Chris Potter, Antonio Hart, and Tim Armacost, and reviews of various recordings.
Jacob performs the saxophone and woodwinds in various jazz and improvisational groups in New York City and beyond. He also teaches music privately and at NYC public schools through the Third Street Music Settlement's MILES (Music in the Lower East Side) program.
Education:
Having graduated from Lawrence University and Conservatory of Music in Appleton, Wisconsin with degrees in philosophy and saxophone performance, Jacob Teichroew is currently working towards his M.A. in jazz performance at the Aaron Copland School of Music at CUNY Queens College in Flushing, Queens, New York.
From Jacob Teichroew:
Since I began studying, playing, listening to, and reading about jazz, I have been captivated by its subtleties, complexities, history, and its expressive powers. Jazz has a rich past, and it continues to thrive and expand, causing new questions and points of interest to arise.
My goal is to share with people where jazz has been and where it is going. Read this site for information on the jazz tradition, reviews of classic albums and new releases, and for news of what is brewing in the jazz world.
