Born:
September 9th, 1975 in Burnaby, British ColumbiaEarly Life:
Born to a family of fisherman outside of Vancouver, British Columbia, Michael Bublé grew up listening to the great jazz vocalists including Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, and Rosemary Clooney. His grandfather, with whom he was very close as a child, exposed him to these artists. Bublé also gained his first performance experience with help from his grandfather, who was a plumber. He convinced local musicians to allow the young Michael Bublé to join them onstage in exchange for free plumbing maintenance.Big Break:
As a teenager, Bublé honed his craft by singing in the musicals Red Rock Diner and Forever Swing. When Bublé was 25, an associate to former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney heard his performance and gave his CD to Mulroney. The Prime Minister was so impressed that he asked Bublé to sing at his daughters wedding, and also introduced him to David Foster, a record producer from Warner Brothers Records. In 2000, Foster produced Bublés major label debut, Michael Bublé. The album features various jazz standards as well as hits by Van Morrison and Stevie Wonder. With this album, Bublé proves his aptitude not just for swing, but for pop music spanning several decades. His 2009 album Crazy Love continues with this genre-crossing approach.
