Grants and Foundations

While jazz musicians find their music enriching, it is often not enriching in the financial sense. Here is a list of grants and foundations devoted to funding artistic projects and allowing the music to continue to thrive.

New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival and Foundation
This organization is devoted to preserving and encouraging the arts in New Orleans, Louisiana, the birthplace of jazz.

The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation Jazz Initiative
The Jazz Initiative awards millions of dollars worth of grants to jazz presenters, jazz performers, and jazz media projects.

Jazz Foundation of America
The JFA was founded in an effort to offset the consequences of a changing era, when it is becoming harder and harder to make a living playing jazz. The foundation raises money to provide elderly or struggling musicians with financial and medical assistance.

ASCAP Foundation Young Jazz Composer Award
This award is presented annually to encourage talented jazz composers. Follow this link to download an application form. The deadline each year is Dec. 1st, and applicants must not have turned 30 by Dec. 31st the year they wish to apply.
